Mathias Hornsteiner violin dated 1872
This Mathias Hornsteiner violin is an excellent Mittenwald reproduction. He died in 1808. A number of these reproductions were hand made using very good wood and exceptional craftsmanship. This instrument is very light much like an Italian and it really sings – it is strong and responsive. Three cracks were repaired and cleated on the top which are virtually invisible (not in the sound post or bass bar areas). Fresh set up with new sound post, bridge, chin rest and Dominant strings.
