This Fischer violin dated 1936, Milwaukee. This violin sounds as close to a fine Italian violin as you will find outside of Italian makers. This Lorenz J Fischer violin has the characteristics sought in a soloist instrument. Fine craftsmanship, no repairs. Back measures 356 mm.

Lorenz J Fischer (I) Born 1889 St. Johann Austria, Worked from 1909 Milwaukee USA. Trained by grandfather and at the Austrian Violin-making School; also a pupil of Gagl and Reinhold Schmidt. Active from 1906. Emigrated to America. Established in Milwaukee 1909. Assisted by son Lorenz. Interesting work using Stradivari model with Guadagnini soundholes. Fine materials and golden-orange varnish.

Lorenz J Fischer (I); Milwaukee, WI. Born in 1889 in St. Johann, Austria. Made first instrument in 1906. Studied under his grandfather, and also at the Austrian Violin Making School. Helped by Reinhold Schmidt. Worked for Gagl in Austria. Moved to the United States and established a shop in Milwaukee in 1909. Strad outline with Guadagnini f-holes. Own amber-oil varnish in golden orange. Fine workmanship. His labels were very similar in format to those of Sanctus Seraphin. Primarily did repair work, although he did make a fairly large number of violins.”

Altogether splendid designs embellished by tasteful workmanship. Scroll graphically and forcibly shaped. No defects in sound-holes or purfling. Finest European woods used. American material generally ignored. Own preparation of a lovely tinted golden orange varnish. Many American artists wrote to him in appreciation of teh deep tonal quality imparted to his instruments.”
