Georges Mougenot violin dated 1893
This Georges Mougenot violin has the original label which is hand signed by the maker. The violin has a single repair on the top next to the neck on the bass side. The other dark lines are characteristics of the wood and are not cracks.

GEORGE MOUGENOT was born in Mirecourt, France in 1843 where he was apprenticed to George Deroux. He later settled in Brussels where he established a workshop of the highest standard and ever increasing popularity. He produced violins of the finest quality, both for craftsmanship and tone. He was the recipient of many gold and silver awards offered at various European conventions. This Strad copy is in excellent condition. The tone has a clear, bell-like quality, but of great depth.
