Carlo Bergonzi violin
This Carlo Bergonzi violin has a grafted neck. It is likely a very good, very old German copy. The wood selection is gorgeous with an amber ground that glows through the outer varnish – photos don’t do justice to the beauty of the wood. Many features of this violin appear to be Italian: delicate scroll, higher Amatese arching, round edges with deeply inset purfling, amber ground (first varnish coat). You can see where the back was scraped with glass – the way it was done prior to the early 1800’s. A very interesting violin.
Length of back: 360 mm
